Lewis James is a photographer originally from Tallahassee, Florida, now based in Brooklyn, New York. He has recently received his BFA in photography from Pratt Institute, with minors in The Book and Museum & Gallery Practices. His photographic documentary practice often explores themes of history, memory, and the movement of culture and stories across generations and geographic boundaries. Recently, his work has specifically highlighted his family’s history in the American South. Through photography, research, and archival inquiry, his images work to recover narratives and an archive that have been lost to time.

He is also the co-founder of Lunar Press, an independent artist book publishing company.
